if there was a monthly fee i'd sell my account straight away, only reason i got GW was cos of the no-monthly cost

Welcome to the wild west that is online RPG.

Juvenile behavior is rampant regardless of what you play. WoW has a monthly fee but it's much much worse.

If you can find a guild with people who think like yourself (yes, it IS possible) then see about joining. It makes the whole experience more palatable.

So I don't believe a monthly fee is the answer. Besides, there are many nice casual players in GW who wouldn't have purchased it if there was a monthly fee. A monthly fee would make some folks, like myself, feel obligated to be online 24/7 to get our money's worth .... or to quit playing altogether. Implimenting a fee now would only drive many decent and good-natured players away.

I love this game, im nice to all others who play, and i have never done anything to make anyone else mad. If guild wars had a fee though, i wouldnt play it.
Xue Yi Liang is right, it would drive away a lot of people who are curtious gamers.

sometimes i just head to the major towns just to help people out. i can't exactly give away gold, since i'm pretty much always low, but there's always someone who doesn't know where the Competition Arena entrance in LA is, or who doesn't know something else. i've met people on both sides of the spectrum, but most of the people i've interacted with are the nice types-or the totally silent types.

turning this game into a monthly-fee game would kill about half of the playerbase, but it wouldn't weed out the fools, idiots, self-contained elitists, "n00bs", and the other annoying players.

You know, like I said, I think I've just burned out a bit on the game, but once I got playing some PvP I thought it might be different as far as the player mentality goes. Once I got to Droknars in the PvE campaign, it seemed people did take the game more seriously as far as teamwork and what not was concerned, so I guess I was just hoping that by playing level 20 PvP it would apply to that as well. It didn't, but I shouldn't have expected it to really.

As far as paying to play, I admit it probably wouldn't make much of a difference and was a mistake on my part. Having only one other game to compare it too, I wasn't aware that this kind of behavior was the norm for all games in this genre. Perhaps I do need to join a larger guild or just take a few weeks off.

Anyway, I appreciate all the replies.

Hell no. I paid 50 bucks so I didn't pay monthly. The game I was playing prior was 5 bucks a month and I played it for more than 10 months, so this game is better. Monthly fees will not keep idiots out, it will just force them to pay to play. I think you should be ashamed for suggesting this, seriously.
Heh, I bet it was Runescape.

Even in p2p (pay to play) games like WoW, AO, and EQ, you get plenty of disrespectful, immature people. You can't get rid of them, so just ignore them, or quit.

We always have a choice in how to react to something another person does.

If somone does something, and our reaction is to become angry or annoyed.. well, then that's the choice we've made. We could have just as easily chosen to laugh, or raise an eyebrow, or simply ignore it completely and move on.

I really think that it WOULD keep some of the idiots out. Having said that, I haven't seen any "idiots" in the game so far. I have never been truly bothered, and newbs are just something to deal with. Remember, you were a newb once too. Making GW a thing to pay for makes it too much like WoW. Guild Wars is a great game that should NOT be paid for. It gives people the freedom of playing the game. Think about it. Does it really seem fair that you pay $50 for a game that is ONLY online play, and to play that game you have to pay $15 a month? Very lame. Either pay every month for a game you can only play online, or not play this game you really want. Pointless. A lot of the people that like playing and are willing to pay don't have a Credit Card or Debit Card to pay for the game, or can't get their parents to pay even if the kids are willing to reinburst their parents.

Choice A:

Play GW and ignore rude and obnoxious players, etc, etc... and not loose money over it.

Choice B:

PLay a game paying each month to keep playing AND having to deal with rude players, greifers, player killers, loot stealers, juvenile main chat conversations, and likewise.

Hey fezz47,

you can still have a lot of fun with the game if you change your attitude a bit to all the idiots out there. First thing to remember is that there are also a lot of good players, and it does take a little luck and maybe time to find them. But when you do, its a lot of fun.

Not much you can do about the idiot players except laugh at them. There are the egoists, the perfectionists, the "I am better than you all because I have a higher level and am wearing Droknars armor" types, the types that go AFK to eat in the middle of a mission, the types that suddenly leave a mission because they need to go to bed, the types that expect anyone with monk as primary or secondary to personally heal them while they charge ahead into the middle of a mob with no concept of the tactic of luring, etc., etc. etc. I meet these all the time, and I either just ignore them, or play around with them. Like, if I am playing a character with healing and/or resurrection, I just will start to refuse to heal/res anyone that acts rudely or plays stupidly (like, charges ahead into the next monster group without waiting for support to regen or catch up).

Another thing I do is I try to be the leader of any PVE group, and if I already see that a party member is beginning to act up, I kick him (oh, so and so had to leave the group guys, so lets find another ... ). I'm not a leaver, and will try to stick out any mission or quest to the end, but in some rare cases where several of the party are really annoying, I explain to the group that I am leaving and why I am leaving. Either that, or I just don't aid the annoying ones at all and hope they all die!

So just ignore them, tease them, take revenge on them, whatever, but just have fun with the game!

^^^^^^

I like coolsti's style.

I do the same thing when I make groups. Don't like 'em, kick them. If they decide to bitch to me, I just give them a smile and say sorry. I mis-clicked. Setting examples to other people can stop the idiocy.

STOP THE IDIOCY. CURE THE PLAGUE. Set an example! One bitch at a time!
...

/sort of sarcasm.

Dude I play in the american servers, and except for a few chidings(i was asking WAYY to high for my dye, some other noob advised me to put that offer), Im yet to come across any such sad sack!!! Ppl are generally nice, although compared to Asian MMORPGs, they tend not to get very buddy like..
Still, they're helpful and till now ive NEVER had a query (in-game)thats gone unanswered.

Salute!

After a few months of PVE only and a little taste to PVP last night, I was actually looking forward to trying out PVP with my two higher level characters. Is it really that bad? Or are the unfriendly types only xx% of the total, with xx being a number significantly less than 100?

Yes, its hard to remember and imagine when you look at the same aged characters on the screen, that many of them may not be much older than 11! But one of the best players I have met so far with respect to maturity and teamworking and just general enjoyment of the game is only 14! Hey, I'm 51 and am currently playing this game every free hour I get! Fortunately my wife also loves the game.

Truth.

I thought is was bad in the PvE part of the game with the whiners, rudeness, and people insisting of getting the ???perfect group??? for a mission. God, you spend more time finding a group than playing. But PvP is even worse.
Truth. Playing PvP is an excercise in aggravation. I simply don't.

In GW, if you have a question on gameplay, don???t bother asking anyone in-game, as you???re most likely to get either no response at all or ???STFU noob!???
Truth. I stopped asking questions about when I reached Lions Arch - there just was no point, because I hardly ever got an answer.

As bad as I feel to say this, I for one would rather pay a monthly fee, and weed out a lot of the idiots playing now.
Don't know if it'd work. By all accounts the WoW crowd is about the same, and that's a pay-to-play MMORPG.

GW's problem is that it inherited the battle.net crowd from DiabloII, through no fault of the game itself, just as WoW's problem is that it inherited the warcraft crowd.

The moment this game becomes p2p [which will never happen thank God], you're not going to weed out the idiots...

Instead, there'll be about 3x more idiots than mature gamers because the mature people with wives, husbands, kids, jobs, and better things in life, will LEAVE and then you're stuck with these 15 yr. old morons who've got nothing smart to do with their money...

Me and my guild would easily disappear from this game simply due to the fact that we play this casually... [not 24/7 like these p2p wannabes who want to p2p because they have the idiocy to do so...]

I've got better things to do with my money and this game lets me do that.

this WILL remove those little kids that swear and think they know what theyre doing.
ive played world of warcraft and havent come across a single person that has swore at anyone bcoz of how a battle went or blaming someone on why they lost or anything like that. i hope they make guild wars p2p.

i dont want to pay for WoW and EverQuest and stuff, so why would i want to pay here?
i've often thought about starting to play those other games coz they look and sound really cool but the monthly fee fcks it up for me. pay like 20 euros per month just to play a stupid game??? hell no... ive got enough to pay for my internet connection.

i think guild war is THE game just becoz they let us play without a fee (ander other stuff that isnt important here)

I'm with you there anytime you want to get together and run some missions let me know I'm 27 and much perfer to play with other casual adult players with the more laid back "let's just go out and have fun" mentality.

Like I have said several other types on this forum. Real fun in the game comes from a group of people just out there having fun with it and having laughs along the way!
